History of Animation in Live Action

Animation in live action means integrating real life characters with animated characters. It started way back in 1940 during the black & White era where Disney movies had not even taken shape. ‘Gertie the Dinosaur’ was a first movie made where live action & animation were used in collaboration. This was the silent film era. Disney also started this concept way before Mickey Mouse was born with animated short cartoons known as ‘Alice comedies’.

Space Jam was a classic example of a live action animated movie. It incorporated live characters like Michael along with all the Looney Toons characters and Michael going down the hole into the Toonland was a sight to see. Roger Rabbit was one movie that broke all records when it came to animation in live action. None of the movies like Space Jam, Cool World, Looney Toons: Back in Action could break the record of Roger Rabbit. Animation in the earlier days was integrated with live action in a variety of ways. Double printing 2 negatives on the same release print. Optical printers or aerial image animation cameras which enable more precise positioning and better incorporation of actors and animated characters.

The Fire Element in Astrology

The four elements of Astrology are fire, earth, air, and water. Each one of these elements rule three signs of the zodiac. These elements are indicative of the sign’s underlying nature, and the focus here will be on the fire signs. The fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and Aries’ element is fire. Fire is considered to be first in the list of the elements. It has power, magnetism, and is full of action. The fire signs are ruled by action oriented planets.

Leo is ruled by the Sun

A Lesson in Art History

The Russian Matryoshka Doll is a popular collectible item that comes in many different artistic styles. However, what is the artistic history and inspiration of these lovely wooden nesting dolls?

What is a Russian Matryoshka Doll?

Russian Matryoshka Dolls, or Russian Nesting Dolls, are hand-carved dolls, or statues, made from wood. Each set of wooden nesting dolls has several dolls stacked one inside of the other. The largest doll, the mother, holds all of the smaller dolls, or babies, inside of her body. The smallest baby doll is solid wood and does not open.

These wooden nesting dolls are hand-painted to depict a specific theme. Traditional designs depict a mother dressed in the Russian folk dress costume called “Sarafan”. Flowers are also commonly found on matryoshka dolls. Other traditional designs include a religious subject matter. Eastern Orthodoxy is a major part of Russian life, so it’s not surprising that many Russian nesting dolls depict a Christian religious theme such as the onion domes of a Russian Orthodox Church.
