I’m sure that you have already heard about HD 3-D TV. It’s the latest development in the race of cable and satellite TV companies to bring entertainment right to your living room. The development of television entertainment has gone from black and white to color to cable to satellite to high definition and just recently companies have started to introduce HD 3-D. But I’ll bet that you don’t know how companies are able to produce an appearance of depth on your completely flat TV screen?
The old method of producing a 3-D image on your TV screen involves those old red and blue glasses. The image that was projected was actually two sets of images that were slightly shifted off of one another. One image had a reddish tinge while the other image had a bluish tinge. When these images were viewed through the red and blue glasses, the glasses would cancel out one of the colours and thus the same image would be reach your brain. Since the images were slightly shifted, the brain is tricked into interpreting the offset of the images as depth even though the screen is strictly two dimensional!
